Hi there. I’m a freelance journalist living on Bowen Island, near Vancouver, in western Canada. I specialize in shipping and international trade as well as writing about my experiences living in Urumqi, northwest China and in Khartoum, Sudan.
My freelance work has appeared on CBC Radio and in The Globe and Mail, Reader’s Digest Canada, Canadian Geographic, BCBusiness magazine, Marine Digest, The Journal of Commerce, Maritime Magazine, and numerous international business publication. I write regularly for online publications and a non-profit organization.
I’ve worked in journalism for most of my adult life, including nine years on staff at The Vancouver Sun as assistant design editor, acting design editor and foreign wire editor. On the new media side, I co-founded and ran a 100-page website for a non-profit organisation for two years.
I’ve also edited two maritime magazines in Vancouver, B.C. and Seattle, U.S. and written many columns and features for international business magazines and online publications in the U.S., Japan, and the U.K.
I’m originally from England, where I worked as reporter, chief reporter, education correspondent and copy editor for U.K. weekly and evening newspapers, including the Newcastle Evening Chronicle. I also freelanced on the national papers in London for 18 months, reporting and copy editing for the Daily Express, The Observer and Weekend magazine.
